Privacy Policy
Last updated September 21, 2026
This policy explains what information Trivia Champ ("we", "us") collects when you use triviachamp.net (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. The Service is a web app for trivia hosts to design, run and score trivia nights.
Information we collect
- Account details. Your name and email address, and, if you sign up with a password, that password, which we store only as a one-way hash and never in readable form.
- Google sign-in. If you choose "Continue with Google", we receive your name, email address, whether Google has verified that address, and Google's unique identifier for your account. We request only the basic profile and email permissions. We never see your Google password and never access your contacts, files, calendar or any other Google data.
- What you create. Events, rounds, teams (named by the host), answers and scores, questions, and venues (name, address, city, notes and, if you pick one from the Google Maps search, its Google place ID).
- Sign-in records. Each time you sign in we record the time, your IP address and your browser's user-agent string, to keep you signed in and to help protect accounts.
- Server logs. Like most websites, our servers log requests (your IP address, the page requested and the time) for security and troubleshooting.
The Service doesn't take payments, so we don't collect payment card details. It doesn't have accounts for the people who play at your event; teams are just names you enter.
How we use your information
- To provide, maintain and secure the Service, including signing you in and running your events.
- To send messages about your account, such as password-reset emails. We don't send marketing email.
- To investigate abuse, fix problems and improve the Service.
- To comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Service.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't show advertising.
Questions you share
By default, a question you add, or import from a spreadsheet, is also shared to the public question bank, where other hosts can see it, use it in their own events and copy it into their libraries. You can keep any question private by ticking "Keep this question private" when you add it, or by putting true in the private column of an import. Other hosts don't see your name or email next to a shared question, but we record which account shared it so that you can take it back.
You can stop sharing a question from the question bank page. If another host has already used it in an event, it can't be removed until they take it out, and copies other hosts have already made stay with them. Your events, teams, venues, notes and private questions are visible only to you.
Google services
- Google sign-in. If you use it, Google's own Privacy Policy applies to that sign-in.
- Google Maps search. When you search for a venue, the text you type is sent from our servers to Google's Places API to fetch suggestions, and Google may process it under its own terms and privacy policy. Your account details aren't sent with it. We keep only the place ID plus the name and address you choose to save.
Trivia Champ's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use the information Google gives us only to sign you in and create your account.
Who else receives your information
We share information only with service providers that help us run the Service (such as our hosting and email delivery providers), who may use it only to provide those services to us; with Google, as described above; and where the law requires it or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users or the Service. We don't sell or rent your personal information.
Cookies
We use one cookie, which keeps you signed in. It's essential to the Service, and it's removed when you sign out. We don't use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies.
How long we keep information, and deleting it
We keep your information while your account is open. To delete your account and the data in it, or to ask us to remove a question you shared to the public bank, email support@triviachamp.net. We'll respond within 30 days. We may keep limited information where the law requires, or for security records, for as long as necessary.
Security
We use HTTPS to protect information in transit and store passwords only as one-way hashes. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Service isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Your choices and rights
You can review and update your information by contacting us, and you can ask us to correct or delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights over your personal information, such as access, portability or objection to certain uses. Email support@triviachamp.net to make a request.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date above, and for significant changes we'll tell you on the Service or by email.
